Jason sings the role of the Drum Major in Wozzeck on Saturday 11 November
American vocalist and director Jason Collins has attracted international attention as one of the dramatic singing actors to watch and hear.
Collins has taken the responsibilities of the title role in Peter Grimes at Teatro alla Scala, debuted at New Israeli Opera in Tel Aviv as Steva in Jenufa, and a role debut of Don Jose with Eugene Opera. Former contractual duties have included the title role of Rienzi at Teatro dell'opera di Roma, rehearsals of Parsifal in Dresden for Thielemann's inaugural season of the Salzburg Easter Festival, Seattle Opera for Wagner's Ring Cycle singing the role of Froh and covering Siegmund and return to Chicago Lyric Opera, La Monnaie in Brussels in a performance of Das Klagende Lied. Collins returned to the Glimmerglass Festival as Giasone in Medea and the Opera Company of Philadelphia as Cassio in Otello, and appearances in concert venues at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia.
Other notable venues include San Francisco Opera’s as Froh in Das Rheingold, the Lyric Opera of Chicago as Tichon in Katya Kabanová, the title role of Idomeneo at both the Teatro Comunale in Bolgona, Teatro di Pavarotti i Freni in Modena, Italy, and the Boston Lyric Opera.
A native of South Carolina, Mr. Collins is the recipient of numerous awards and scholarships. He received his Bachelor of Music in Voice from the Juilliard School and Master of Music in Opera from the Curtis Institute of Music and is a graduate of the Pittsburgh Opera Center.
