Orpheus Choir Wellington sings Beethoven's 9th Symphony - featured in THE CLASSICAL STYLE on Saturday 6 July.
The choir is often referred to as “the mighty Orpheus” because they bring the big choir experience — dramatic, spectacular, and emotionally charged performances of stunning choral music — to a wide variety of events. These include the Choir’s own sell-out events, festivals and the occasional pop concert. Our concerts are often recorded by Radio New Zealand Concert.
Formed in 1947, Orpheus Choir Wellington are custodians of some of the greatest music ever written, and they love to make it come alive for contemporary audiences of all ages and stages. Their varied and sometimes surprising repertoire includes everything from the most loved works in the choral repertoire to some of the lesser-known and more challenging, as well as Māori waiata. In line with their role at the centre of performing arts in the Wellington Region, they are regularly seen at community events, most recently at the ANZAC memorial at Te Papa.
