your gift will bridge worlds

Orchestra Wellington Foundation is the bridge between worlds. Between someone hearing music and it striking a chord within. Between listening to a concert and connecting you with friends. Between youthful passion and professional opportunities. Between ballet and opera and the bringing of these to life. Between visitors wandering Wellington and discovering its beating heart.

QUESTIONS YOU MAY HAVE

Find answers to common questions about the Foundation, including the difference between giving to Orchestra Wellington and the Foundation,
tax deductibility, bequests, pledges, governance, and how Foundation funds are invested and used.

A donation to Orchestra Wellington supports the orchestra’s day-to-day operations, helping deliver concerts and keep ticket prices accessible. A gift to Orchestra Wellington Foundation builds a permanent fund that invests in projects that strengthen the orchestra’s future. Only the earnings from the Foundation’s investments are used, allowing your gift to create an enduring impact.

Yes. Orchestra Wellington Foundation is an IRD approved donee organisation. Donations of $5 or more are generally eligible for a donation tax credit of 33⅓%. From 1 April 2027, eligible donations for the tax credit are capped at $100,000 per year, or your taxable income if lower.

Yes. We will provide a receipt for all eligible donations, making it easy to claim your tax credit from Inland Revenue.

Absolutely. Gifts of every size help strengthen Orchestra Wellington’s future.

Yes. Many supporters choose to give monthly or annually, allowing the Foundation to plan confidently for future projects.

A pledge is simply a way of letting us know you intend to leave a gift to Orchestra Wellington Foundation in your Will. There is no legal obligation during your lifetime and you are free to change your Will at any time.

Knowing about your pledge allows us to thank you, keep you informed about the Foundation’s work and, if you wish, welcome you as a member of the Orchestra Wellington Foundation Legacy Circle.

There are four simple steps.

  1. Decide whether you would like to leave a specific amount, a percentage of your estate or the residue of your estate.
  2. Ask your solicitor to include the appropriate wording in your Will.
Wording example: I leave the following gift of [specify an amount or a percentage of your estate] to The Orchestra Wellington Foundation Trust Board, 35 Victoria Street, Level 3, Wellington 6011, Charity registration number CC23685.
  3. Complete our Pledge Form on our main Foundation webpage if you would like us to know about your future gift.
  4. Return the completed form to the Foundation or contact us for a confidential conversation.

No. Your decision is entirely private.

However, if you complete a Pledge Form, it allows us to thank you during your lifetime and keep you informed about the difference your future gift will make.

Absolutely. We understand these are personal decisions. We’d be delighted to have a confidential conversation about your wishes and the lasting impact your gift could make.

When Orchestra Wellington receives a gift from an estate, that money goes into our Foundation. Instead of using the money right away, your gift will build the principal of the Foundation’s funds.

Orchestra Wellington uses the interest on the principal to help us reach our objectives, whether that is players’ salaries, internships for young musicians or community outreach programmes.

If you are passionate about music education, your gift will help fund our education initiatives – like our Music to Schools programme, or our internship for talented young musicians from disadvantaged communities.

Yes. You may choose to support a particular area, such as music education, commissioning new music or audience development. Alternatively, you may leave an unrestricted gift, allowing the Foundation Trustees to direct your support where it will have the greatest long term impact.

The Foundation invests in projects that strengthen Orchestra Wellington’s long term sustainability, artistic excellence and community impact. Funding decisions are made by the Foundation Trustees in partnership with Orchestra Wellington’s leadership.

The Foundation exists solely to strengthen Orchestra Wellington’s future. Gifts are carefully governed by the Foundation Trustees and invested in approved Foundation initiatives to achieve the greatest possible long term impact.

Recognition is entirely your choice. Many supporters enjoy being acknowledged as members of the Orchestra Wellington Foundation Legacy Circle, while others prefer to remain anonymous. We are equally grateful for every gift.
