Wellington Brass Band
Wellington Brass Band joins us in 2026 for COLOSSAL on 22 August, 7:30pm at the Michael Fowler Centre.
Founded in 1905, Wellington Brass is one of New Zealand’s leading brass bands, bringing together community musicians from across the Wellington region. As an award-winning, member-led charitable organisation, Wellington Brass promotes excellent brass playing in Wellington through its Premier Band and thriving Buzzing Brass youth and development programme.
With a proud history of national and international success, Wellington Brass has won eight National Championship titles over the last decade, including a record-breaking seven consecutive A Grade championships. The band has also performed at the British Open and, most recently, represented New Zealand at the 2026 World Music Contest in Kerkrade, the Netherlands.
Wellington Brass has a long history of collaboration with leading New Zealand musical organisations and artists, including Orchestra Wellington, the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, Orpheus Choir, Signature Choir, Dave Dobbyn and the Royal New Zealand Air Force Band. The band is honoured to continue this tradition of collaboration and combine forces with the wonderful musicians in Orchestra Wellington.
“It is a real privilege for Wellington Brass to be involved in Orchestra Wellington’s performance of Berlioz’s Requiem. This is an extraordinary work that calls for a huge and spectacular brass sound, and we are thrilled to be part of such an ambitious musical project. For our players, performing alongside Orchestra Wellington and contributing to Berlioz’s incredible vision is a very special opportunity, and one that we are immensely proud to be part of.”
– David Bremner, Musical Director
