Mozart Requiem & Christopher Tin’s To Shiver the Sky Programme

Brent Stewart, Conductor
Orpheus Choir Wellington with Orchestra Wellington
featuring Emma Pearson, Soprano and other soloists to be announced

Experience two masterpieces in one exceptional concert as Orpheus Choir Wellington present Christopher Tin’s To Shiver the Sky alongside Mozart’s Requiem. This concert spans five centuries of imagination and purpose, from the earliest dreams of flight to one of the greatest choral masterpieces ever written.

To Shiver the Sky is an epic choral spectacular from Grammy winning composer Christopher Tin. Drawing on texts from da Vinci, Hildegard von Bingen, Ovid, Jules Verne, Amelia Earhart and John F. Kennedy, it builds a sweeping musical history of human flight from imagined wings to the Moon landing. Born from a record breaking Kickstarter campaign, the work opens with Sogno di Volare, known worldwide as the main theme of Civilization VI, one of the most celebrated strategy games of the decade. Its sound world spans luminous stillness and immense choral climaxes, evoking the exhilaration and peril of human flight.

Mozart’s Requiem stands as one of the greatest choral works ever composed. Written in the final months of his life, it sets the sacred Requiem Mass with blazing dramatic power and a depth of feeling that has captivated audiences for more than two centuries. From the fierce energy of the Dies Irae to the aching beauty of the Lacrimosa, the music moves with a haunting power that remains unmatched in the choral repertoire.

Together these works form an extraordinary musical journey. One celebrates the daring that pushes humanity forward. The other reveals the full dramatic power of the Requiem tradition at its most intense and expressive. Performed by the mighty Orpheus Choir Wellington with Orchestra Wellington, conducted by Brent Stewart and featuring celebrated soprano Emma Pearson, this is a night of immense musical colour and emotional impact.
