ABOUT THE BIG BASH

First held in 2020, Orchestra Wellington's Big Bash is an annual mass play-in event which brings together hundreds of instrumentalists from across the Wellington region in a glorious afternoon of music-making.

Conducted by Orchestra Wellington's Music Director Marc Taddei, together we will rehearse then perform a selection of much-loved works. This year's repertoire includes Tchaikovsky's Romeo & Juliet Fantasy Overture and 1812 Overture!

Anyone is welcome to come along and watch both the rehearsal and the performance entirely for FREE. Our 2025 Big Bash will be on Sunday 5 October at the Lower Hutt Events Centre. Rehearsal runs from 1-3pm with the concert starting at 3:30pm.

FOR PARTICIPANTS:

There are some important things to note before you arrive for this year's Big Bash:

1. Date: Sunday 5 October.

2. Location: Lower Hutt Events Centre at 30c Laings Road, Hutt Central, Lower Hutt 5010. See map below showing the venue and nearby parking areas. 

3. Timings: Please arrive no later than 12:45pm. Rehearsal runs from 1-3pm, then a short break before our free concert for community, family, and friends at 3:30pm. 

4. Bring with you: Your instrument(s), a music stand, a pencil, and any mutes or accessories that may be required (as per your part).
