Frequently Asked Questions

What form can a planned gift take?

A planned gift can be any gift that you intend to give the Foundation at a later time, but would like them to know about now. Some of those things may be:

- Leave shares of personal property to the Foundation

- Leave a gift in your will

- Make the Foundation the beneficiary when you are winding up a trust or private Foundation

- Pledge a multiple year gift

What happens to my gift?

When Orchestra Wellington receives a gift from an estate, that money goes into our Foundation. Instead of using the money right away, your gift will build the principal of the Foundation’s funds.  Orchestra Wellington uses the interest on the principal to help us reach our objectives, whether that is players’ salaries, internships for young musicians or community outreach programmes. It you are passionate about music education, your gift will help fund our education initiatives – like our Music to Schools programme, or our internship for talented young musicians from disadvantaged communities.

Isn’t this a private matter?

Absolutely. We believe that the only way anyone should find out about the contents of your will during your lifetime is if you choose them to, and we will never ask you to tell us your wishes.

Of course, if you do want to let us know that you have remembered Orchestra Wellington in you will, we would love the opportunity to say thank you. We might also discuss whether you would like your gift to go to a particular use and we will try to fulfil such wishes wherever possible. You can let us know how often you want to hear from us, and whether you’d prefer we write or call.

How will my family feel about it?

We believe in the importance of family and we understand that your loved ones come first. That’s why we would always encourage anyone considering leaving a gift to take care of those close to them first.

I’ve decided to leave a gift to Orchestra Wellington. What do I need to tell my solicitor?

If you have decided to leave a gift to Orchestra Wellington, the words you will need to add to your will are:

“I leave a gift to The Orchestra Wellington Foundation Trust Board, 35 Victoria Street, Level 3, Wellington 6011, Charity registration number CC23685”

Orchestra Wellington Foundation Legacy Circle

If you do choose to leave a gift in your will to Orchestra Wellington, please let us know. Not only can we ensure we respect your wishes, we can also better plan for the future and we can recognise your extraordinary commitment to the orchestra immediately through our Orchestra Wellington Foundation Society. Members are listed in Orchestra Wellington concert programs and on the website (you can also choose to be anonymous), and get to know the players and staff of the orchestra through invitations to attend rehearsals and special events.
